A pop culture trip down memory lane, ‘Back to the 80’s’ tells the story of Corey Palmer and his senior year of high school: his best friends, the class bully, and the girl he loves. Performed at the Isle of Man Gaiety Theatre from 13th – 20th October 2018.
In the present day, Corey Palmer takes us back to William Ocean High School, watching himself and his friends Kirk and Alf start their bid to be senior class president and vice-presidents, only to have the opportunity shared by bully Michael Feldman and class nerd Feargal McFerrin III.
To make Corey’s life worse, Michael is also fighting for the attention of Tiffany Houston, Corey’s long time crush. But this isn’t the only relationship on the rocks: teachers Mr Cocker and Ms Brannigan are fighting in their not-so-secret romance, Michael is posing as new girl Eileen’s secret admirer, and Tiffany’s friend Cyndi doesn’t want to give admirer Billy the time of day.
Add in a charity concert for Africa, a Star Wars-inspired dream sequence, and a final showdown between Michael and class geek Feargal McFerrin, and Back to the 80’s is a non-stop collection of music, movie, and TV Easter Eggs for all ages.

“Val Cowley, Director showed all her experience with this Production, ensuring that all her talented cast understood what was required of them. Choreographers, Gem Last and Hannah Taylor, devised some slick and innovative routines reflecting the 1980”s music and showing great empathy with each number. David Holland, Musical Director achieved a great performance from all on stage and also fronted his own eighties band ‘Totally Eighties’ who appeared on stage, performing, playing and vocalising with the cast.
Josh Molyneux, Isaac Murtagh, and Joseph Long played their roles with enthusiasm, confidence and all round abilities whilst Alexandra Slater, Shay Marsden, and Jennifer Hill were the perfect foils for the three men. I did not see any week link in anyone on stage.
The audience left for home with a spring in their step with the memories of a wonderful evening of theatre.”
